Overview
Occupying a prime spot just off Piccadilly Circus, The Devonshire brings a new level of ambition to London’s pub scene. After an extensive and sensitive restoration, this Denman Street landmark reopened under the stewardship of Oisín Rogers (ex-Guinea Grill) and Ashley Palmer-Watts (ex-Dinner by Heston Blumenthal), blending traditional pub values with exceptional cooking.
On the ground floor, you’ll find a classic London pub in its purest form: beautifully kept real ales, Guinness poured to perfection, and a convivial, old-world atmosphere filled with polished wood, heritage mirrors, and a crackling fire in colder months. It's the kind of place where standing at the bar with a pint feels like a cherished ritual.
Upstairs, the dining room — often fully booked weeks ahead — showcases the heart of The Devonshire’s culinary offering. The centrepiece is the open coal-fired grill, where prime cuts of beef, whole fish, and pork chops are cooked simply and skilfully. Signature dishes include rare breed steaks, whole grilled turbot, and some of London’s most talked-about Sunday roasts, complete with towering Yorkshire puddings and lashings of gravy.
The emphasis is on sourcing the best British produce and treating it with total respect. Portions are generous, flavours are bold yet refined, and the hospitality — from the greeting at the door to the final pint or glass of claret — is second to none.
The Devonshire has redefined what a proper pub can be in 21st-century London: timeless, welcoming, and completely delicious.
